Our story
The Coptic Orthodox Church of the Annunciation is in New Sohag City — also known as El-Kawamel — west of the Nile, about 8 km from Sohag. It belongs to the Diocese of Sohag, El-Mansha’a and El-Maragha under H.E. Metropolitan Anba Bakhoum. The church is named after the Feast of the Annunciation, when the Archangel Gabriel announced to the Virgin Mary the birth of Christ, celebrated on 29 Baramhat. The first Christmas liturgy in the church was prayed on 7 January 2025, and on 7 March 2026 Deacon Bishoy Atia was ordained its priest as Fr Bishoy. The church serves the families of the new city and grows with it.
